Nyanza residents throng Ksm city to mourn Luo Council of Elders chair

A NUMBER of residents from Nyanza region have today thronged Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Ground to mourn the departed Luo Council of Elders Chairman Willis Opiyo Otondi who passed on a fortnight ago.

The residents some of them donned the Luo Traditional regalia while carrying spears and shield ran around the Sports Ground to show their last respects to the late Mzee Willis Opiyo Otondi who has been the chairman of the Luo Council of Elders since 2010.

During a public viewing process of the body of the late Ker of the Luo Council of Elders today, Members of the Kochia Traditional Dancers from South Nyanza entertained the mourners with dirges praising the late Mzee Otondi.

They went round the casket carrying the remains of the late Otondi while dancing while donning traditional dancing garment made of sisal.

The residents braved the scorching sun within the Lake side City to form a long queue in paying their last respect to Mzee Otondi.

Luo Council of Elders Members led by the Secretary General Mzee Adera Osawa eulogized the late Chairman of the Council whom they have described as being a peace-maker while he led the council as its chairman.

Elder Dorothy Awino who has worked with the late Otondi described him as a peace loving chairman who always wanted the real unity of the entire Luo Community both locally and those in diaspora.

The Body of the late Luo Council of Elders Willis Opiyo Otondi will be taken to his home in Nyahera within Kisumu County where it will stay for two days and buried on Saturday in a ceremony that Former Prime Minister and Azimio La Umoja one Kenya Alliance Leader Raila Amollo Odinga is expected to attend alongside other elected Luo Leaders.  

The Luo Council of Elders Chairman died a fortnight ago after a short illness.
