Nyando MP appeals to National Lands Commission to give title deeds to residents.

NYANDO Member of Parliament Jared Odoyo Okello has appealed to the National Land Commission to speedily process title deeds to residents of the constituency.

Okello says in the entire Nyando Constituency with five wards no resident has owned a land title deed since time immemorial.

Okello caused a prolonged laughter from the participants in a meeting in Kisumu when he said non from Nyando constituency has ever seen how a title deed looks like apart from him.

Speaking during a meeting at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu yesterday during the stakeholders’ consultative meeting on privatization of public sector owned sugar companies, Okello urged the National Land Commission Chair Dr. Ahmed Swazuri to fast track the process of ensuring that the commission gives the vital document to Nyando residents.

The Lawmaker says the title deed is a very important document which must be owned by a resident owning land.

He says the document can also be used as collateral on issues of loans which the area residents would want to get from financial institutions.

Okello has invited the National Land Commission to come and visit the constituency where he will hold a public rally so as to create awareness on the issue of land title deed.

“I will hold a public rally which is not political and I would like to invite the National Land Commission so that we can be able to discuss how the residents can obtain title deeds because this is collateral to loans and my constituents can be able to get loans when they have it,” Okello says.

Okello has promised to visit the National Land Commission’s offices in Nairobi so as to make a follow up on the issue of ensuring that Nyando residents get the vital document.

On the issue of privatization of the public sector –owned sugar companies, the lawmaker has maintained that all the stakeholders must be fully involved and the interest of the sugar cane farmers should be given a priority during the process.
