THE Annual Kenya National Drama and Films Festival is set to kick off in Bungoma County early next Month.

The Kenya National Drama and Film festival has said the national event will kick at Kibabii University as from April 3 to 13 this year.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today on the sideline of a meeting comprising of the Kenya Film Classification Board and the Ministry of Education officials, Kenya National Drama and Film festival Chief Executive Officer James Indimuli said currently they are training the trainers and adjudicators to ensure that the event is a success.

Indimuli says this year’s theme is "promoting moral responsibility among the youth through theatre and film".

The Chief executive officer says the ten day event has seven areas to be assessed ranging from the Singing games and solo verses for the youngsters to modern dances.

Others he says include Plays, cultural Creative dances, narratives, spoken words and mine.

He says with the collaborations with the Kenya Film Classification Board they have managed to re-do their rules and regulations as well as training adjudicators together with trainers  so that they can produce items that can fit this year’s theme.

“We will have huge number of learners who will throng Kibabii University so as to present the items they have starting from Pre-Primary school, primary, secondary and college students,” he says.

He says this year Comedy has been moved to secondary school level from primary school, adding that it has been having a challenge in primary schools which have not been getting it right.

He says the Ministry of education has shown the way and made all the programs to ensure that security of all those visiting the place together with those who will be performing is guaranteed.

The Kenya Film Classification Board Chairman Bishop Jackson Kosgei says this year’s festival has been given a multi-agency approach and this is a good gesture indeed.

He says they are looking forward to make this year’s festival more great as the country moves to the future.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Film Classification Board Dr. Ezekiel Mutua says there is need to harness the creativity of the youth through the national drama and film festival hence will help in the identification of talents at the grass root level then nurtured through the platform of the Kenya national Drama and Film festival.

He says the board is the title sponsor of the event.

“We need to fully recognize that the drama and films are a major tool for transmission of our culture, national values and aspirations,” he says.

He says as the body in charge of the regulation of films and stage plays it must do its work effectively.

Mutua says there is need to have data created on Drama and films festivals so as to ensure continuity.

He says the recent statement by President Kenyatta on the intention of the Government to fund sports, cultural activities and drama is a good one

“The recent statement by the President is a good one because this gives a lot of hope in the industry,” Dr. Mutua adds.
