March 28, 2019.
I fully support my
Governor on Board’s Nominees, Kisumu DG says.
KISUMU Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Ochieng Owili says he
fully supports his Governor Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o decision to nominate six
people to be members of the County Public Service Board.
Dr. Owili says the decision to nominate Charles Babu Karan
as the Chair of the County Public service Board alongside other five people has
been an executive decision.
Speaking during a radio Talk show at Radio Nam Lolwe today
morning, Dr. Owili said already the names of the six nominees have been
submitted to the County Assembly of Kisumu for vetting, debating and then will
be passed by the Assembly.
Dr. Owili is Optimistic that the list of the nominees will
be passed by the Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu after being vetted
and debated upon.
“I want to say it here that I fully support my Governor
Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o following the nomination on the names he made
recently for those who are supposed to be the Chair and members of the Kisumu
County public service Board,” Dr. Owili say.
Dr. Owili at the same say the residents of Kisumu County
should give Governor Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o enough time to deliver on his
election pledges, adding that this will be possible if the Governor choose the
right people to work with right from the County Public Service Board.
Dr. Owili also say
the implementation of the Governor’s manifesto is on the right track
since the governor took over the leadership of the County Government of Kisumu
after August 8,2017 General Election.
Dr. Owili’s sentiment on his full support of Kisumu’s
Governor list of nominees to the County’s public service board comes barely a
few days after a section of MCAs from Nyakach Constituency vowed not to support
the list during vetting and debating at the Assembly citing that the region has
been given a raw deal in the nomination of the names to the board.
However, a section of residents of Nyakach Constituency have
told the MCAs from the area to fully
support and pass the list at the County Assembly while saying that the list is
very fair because the region too has a
nominee.
A section of the MCAs from Nyakach who have opposed the list
have claimed that a pre-election pack has not been honored since there was an
agreement that the chair of the County Public Service Board was to be nominated
from the area.
The List has now been committed to the County Assembly of
Kisumu’s Committee on Appointments which should vet the nominees as from April
2 this year hence bring back the report to the Assembly for debate and approval
or rejection.
If approved, Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o will
appoint the six nominees as the Members of the County Public Service Board with
Mr. Charles Babu Karan as its chair and if rejected, the Governor will have to
look for other nominees.
In a letter dated February 28, this year, Kisumu
Governor Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o through the County Secretary Dr. Olang’o
Onudi nominated 6 people with one as the nominee for the Board’s chair and the
other five as its members.
In that regard, Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter
Anyang Nyong’o has nominated Charles Babu Karan as the Chair for the board.
The other five members who have been nominated
for the position of the Kisumu County Public Service Board Chairman include
Jacinta M.A Kapiyo and Dr. Stephen Orot who served as the County Executive
Committee Member in charge of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries during the
former Governor Jack Ranguma’s tenure.
Other Nominees for the Board’s members include
Edward Joash Kochung, Otieno Nashon Aluoka and Jane Akinyi Oyare.
“Pursuant to Section 58 of the County Government
Act, the Governor of Kisumu has nominated the following for the position of
chairperson {1} and members {5} to Kisumu County Public Service Board,” read
part of the letter.
