Kisumu Tuk Tuk Operators form association to bring sanity in the sub-sector.

THE Tuk Tuk Operators in Kisumu County have formed their Association which will help in bringing sanity in the Sub-Sector.

The Association Known as Tuk Tuk Association of Kisumu has been formed by all the Tuk Tuk operators in the entire Kisumu County.

Addressing the press in Kisumu during the launch of the Association, The Association’s Chairman Michael Otieno Mboya said it has been formed so as to bring all the Tuk Tuk Operators together.

He says it will also help them to tackle their problems as an organized group, adding that in the recent past they have not been organized.

He says the Association has 3470, adding that the plan to start the association was mooted one month ago.

“We have not been organized but now through the formation of this Association and I urge all the Tuk Tuk operators in Kisumu County to get registered in the areas they are operators,” he says.

The Association’s chair says it will help to address the issue of ensuring that the operators adhere to traffic rules and regulations.

He says their main aim is to ensure that the operators whom most are the youth are empowered and develop while in the sub-sector.

He says there are a number of challenges they face that include high revenue collected by the County Government of Kisumu as well as lack of parking space created by the county Government of Kisumu for the Tuk Tuk Operators especially in Kisumu City.

He says the sub-sector has employed a number of youth in the county hence should be supported by all the stakeholders.

He says all the operators will now be registered under their areas of operations for easy identification.
Kisumu Central Officer Commanding Police Station Henry Simiyu has urged the Operators to ensure that they observe traffic rules and regulations while in the line of duties to avoid road accidents.

Kisumu Central Police station Base Commander Jane Mbevi urges the tuk tuk Operators to be very mindful of other road users as well as observing the traffic rules so as to avoid any form of traffic offense.
