Nyakach residents wants their MCAs to pass public service Board’s nominees.

A SECTION of Residents from Nyakach constituency now want all the Five Members of the County Assembly representing the five wards from the constituency to join their colleagues from other wards within Kisumu County to debate and pass the list of six nominees to the County Public Service Board.

The residents led by Fidel Aduogo, Samwel Nguka Atieno the Chairman of Orange Democratic Movement{ODM} Party in South West Nyakach Ward and Harrison Oyier Jimbo from West Nyakach Ward they it is high time the five MCAs from the constituency should fully support the list of the nominess to the board.

Nyakach Constituency has five wards namely North Nyakach, Central Nyakach, West Nyakach,South East Nyakach and South West Nyakach.

Addressing the press in South West Nyakach Ward, the residents said the issue where the five MCAs have come up with while wanting to oppose the list is not a good one at all.

They say the claim by the MCAs from the area that there was an agreement during when the now Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o was campaigning in the area and promised a prominent politician from Nyakach that he would be given the chair of the Kisumu County Public Service Board is not there.

The residents say they are fully behind Jacinta  Kapiyo from the constituency whom the Kisumu Governor has nominated to be a member of the County public service board, adding that this is a good gesture for them as residents of Nyakach.

They also say that they fully support the nomination of Charles Babu Karan as the Board’s Chair, adding that he is equal to the task ahead of him as the Chair if vetted, approved and subsequently appointed to the position.

The residents say already the area has a position of the Deputy Governor and the current holder is Dr. Mathews Ochieng Owili, a Director of Communication in the office of the Governor, County Liaison Officer among other key positions in the current regime of Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o.

“Currently, Nyakach has a position of the Deputy Governor and other positions and it will not be fair again to give us the position of the Chair of the Kisumu County Public Service Board," they say.

They say they are not happy with the announcement in a section of local fm Radio stations by the MCAs led by South West ward MCA Gad Olima where they said they will oppose the list of nominees to the Board while claiming that the person from the region who was to be nominated as the chair of the board has been left out.

“The MCAs who we elected to represent us should do their roles effectively without fear or favor because they have our mandate to do this,” they add.

South West Nyakach MCA Gad Okoth Olima says he and his colleagues from Nyakach will surely oppose the list of the nominees to the County Public Service Board which has been introduced to the County Assembly and has been given to the Committee on Appointments for vetting and bringing the report back to the Assembly for debate hence approved or rejected.

He says his work as an MCA is to oversight, Legislation and to represent the people, adding that the list has no youth and even a person with disability hence as a youth he will oppose it.

“Previously, I have managed to support and pass various lists of nominees to various positions which have been fronted to the Assembly by the Governor but I am not going to support this one on the nominations to the Kisumu County Public Service Board because there is no youth in that list neither is there the name of a person with disability,” Olima says.

He says MCAs are not just to do rubber stamp work where they just pass anything at the Assembly without questioning.

He has dismissed a section of those residents who have told the MCAs from the area to debate and pass that list, adding that they were not at the drawing table when they campaigned for the now Governor Nyong’o and made an agreement with the people of Nyakach.

Olima claims that there has been skewed way of giving public jobs to the people of Nyakach, adding that there are 11 sub-clans in the area and the appointments should be done fairly.

The residents demand comes barely a few days after Governor Nyong’o last week on Thursday sent the list for the Nominees of the Kisumu County Public Service Board to the Assembly.

The List has now been committed to the County Assembly of Kisumu’s Committee on Appointments which should vet the nominees hence bring back the report to the Assembly for debate and approval or rejection.

If approved the Governor will appoint the six nominees as the Members of the County Public Service Board with Mr. Charles Babu Karan as its chair and if rejected, the Governor will have to look for other nominees .
