Aspirant declares
interest in Kisumu North Ward MCA Seat.
The Kisumu North Ward within Kisumu West Sub-County that
fell vacant following the election of the area Member of County Assembly Elisha
Jack Oraro as the Speaker of the County Assembly of Kisumu has begun to attract
the residents of the area to contest the seat as the next MCA.
One of the Aspirants is Thomas Kotieno who has since declared
his interest to contest the seat when a By-Election will be held this year.
Addressing the press in Kisumu today where he declared his
intention to run for the seat, Kotieno said he is the best person to replace immediate
former MCA Elisha Jack Oraro who has since been elected the Speaker of the
County Assembly of Kisumu after acting as a Speaker since September last year
following the impeachment of the Former Speaker Onyango Oloo.
Kotieno says he has what it takes so as to be the next
Member of County Assembly representing the area, adding that he contested the
seat in the previous election and emerged position two.
He says his priority will be to help the locals in enhancing
agriculture within the ward so that the locals will be able to be food
sufficient hence being food secure at all times.
“Agriculture plays a very important role in the community
and we should ensure that there is enough water which the residents can use for
irrigation purposes hence have good harvest from the crops,” Kotieno says.
Kotieno says he will also ensure that the Education which is
very vital to the residents of the ward and will ensure that it is among his
priority when elected as the next Member of the County Assembly representing
the area.
He also says under his leadership if elected will also
ensure that health facilities are built through funds from the county
Government which will be allocated to the department of health during a given financial year.
“Areas like Seke has no health facility and this is an
example that there is need to build a health facility within the area so that the
residents don’t go as far as Nyahera area to seek for health services. Health
is a devolved function and it should be near to the people,” Kotieno adds.
He says there is also need to create value addition to crops
like avocado which is produced within the area in large numbers so as to
benefit the local farmers, adding that this is a great means of livelihoods for
a number of people within the area.
Kotieno says as a youth he also has a very great interests
of the youth at heart, his aim is to ensure that the youth become self-employed
by doing some income generating activities which can help them survive.
