Political Parties to sensitize
their grass root members on BBI
Various political parties across the Country will soon start
sensitizing their members on the content of the Building Bridges Initiative.
Through the Political Parties Liaison Committee, the
Political parties have said they will embark on enlightening the public who are
their members to know more about the Building Bridges Initiative that has been
subjected to regional meetings in three regions.
Addressing the press in Kisumu today after having a meeting
where various political parties have been sensitized on the BBI, Political
Parties Liaison Committee Chairman Irungu Nyakeira said there is need for all
political parties across the country to create more awareness on the issue of
BBI.
The Chair of the Political Parties Liaison Committee says
they will carry out political education on the issue of BBI.
He adds that each and every political parties have different
views on the BBI and can’t be assumed that all political parties have same
views on the document.
“In the coming months, we will be moving to counties so as
to sensitize our members on the issue of BBI more around the political
education,” he says.
He says the idea is to speak to the people at the grass root
so as to know the whole content of the BBI not only some few areas.
“This will enable Kenyans to know it, internalize and make
decisions on the BBI,” he adds.
Nyakeira says the Political parties Liaison Committee had
made recommendation to the BBI task force but they have not been put into
consideration, adding that the committee hope that in the second round some of
its recommendations will be considered.
The Chair says some of the recommendations centers around
politics, adding that some of them include Political funding, issues about how IEBC
is currently constituted, independent candidates among others like inclusivity.
“Our memorandum to BBI task force focuses on the political
interests and participation of every Kenya,” Nyakeira further says.
He says all the registered political parties should benefit
from the funding unlike now where only two political parties currently benefit
from the funding.
He further adds that the Committee is currently working
coming up with regulations that will ensure that political parties’ primaries
are conducted in a peaceful, transparent and fair manner.
