Cotu and other leaders eulogizes departed former President Moi

The Central Organizations of Trade Unions has eulogized the late President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi who passed on in Nairobi today morning.

Through its General Secretary Francis Atwoli, the Workers Union has described Kenya’s second President as a true state man who had the interest of the nation at heart.

Addressing the press at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu today, Atwoli said the former President Moi taught him never to show anger to an enemy.

“I am a good student of the late President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi who taught me never to show my anger to an enemy and I found this to be very true,” Atwoli says.

Atwoli says Moi was very much humble and this act made him to rule the country as its Chief Executive Officer for 24 years.

He says Moi used to work with people who liked hard work and had interests of the public at heart, adding that the former President could personally make a direct telephone call to one if he needed to get first hand information.

Atwoli adds that Moi loved workers so much hence could not allow the issue of industrial unrest to go for a longer period of time.

“The former President could even convene a meeting immediately there was the issues of workers strike in the Country so as to help in unlocking the impasse without allowing the strike to prolong.

The example is about the 1997 Teachers strike that was organized by Knut which the former President could not allow to go for long and called for a meeting that helped to iron out issues. This is why Kenya was a very unique in Africa when it came to the issues of Industrial actions,” Atwoli adds.

Atwoli remembers how one day the former President asked him to accompany him to a fundraising ceremony in Eldoret town and was not prepared for the event but agreed to go with the Head of State to the function.

“I was taken to the Eldoret club and I managed to get some personal items bought for me after Former President Moi asked me to remain behind with him after the function. I was really amazed by such character that Moi exhibited,” Atwoli further says.

Jubilee Party Coordinator in Nyanza Zuberi Odhiambo Liete also sent a message of Condolence following the untimely demise of former President.

He says Leaders should emulate former President Moi on good leadership coupled with a lot of Peace which he kept on preaching to Kenyans during his reign as the Head of State and Government.

“I really appreciate the former President Moi and ask leaders across the country to emulate his leadership skills that helped to unite the country,” Liete says.

Former President Moi ruled the country for a record of 24 years after taking over power from Kenya’s founding Father former President Jomo Kenyatta who died on August 22, 1978.

Kenyatta served for a period of 15 years after Kenya gained its independence in 1963 after which Moi took over when he died.

Former President Moi retired as the Head of State and Government in 2002 December after which former President Mwai Kibaki ascended to the Presidency as the third President on December 30, 2002.

Since his retirement, Moi has lived a very quiet life at both his Kabarak and Kabarnet Gardens Homes for nearly 18 years now.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who addressed the press this morning said his dad passed on at round 5:20 am, adding that the former President died peacefully.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a Presidential Proclamation following the untimely demise of the former President Moi.
