Kisumu’s Mlimani Boda Boda riders purchase vehicle for transport business 

Boda Boda Operator within Market Mlimani ward in Kisumu City have purchased a new motor vehicle for transport business.

This becomes the first boda boda riders under a Sacco that has bought a vehicle for transport business purpose.

Addressing the Sacco members during the launch of the vehicle today in Kisumu, Mlimani Boda Boda Sacco riders Sacco Limited Chairman Jackson Juma Adero said they have done so in order to initiate development project that will be of great benefit to the Sacco members. 

Adero says they have managed to purchase the vehicle through a bank loan which they will repay as members.

He says they have also formed a company known as Market Ward Riders Company Limited which will spearhead the operations of the sacoo.

“It has not been an easy thing for us but this is the way to go forward after a long search for unity, peaceful coexistence and effective dialogue that promote peace and enhanced development,” Adero says.

Acting Kisumu County Executive Committee member in charge of Transport Dickson Obungu has thanked the Sacco for a job well done, adding that this is a way of moving forward in terms of development.

He says the County Government is ready to offer support to the boda boda riders who are in organized sacco.

He says after duly filling some forms, the county Government will give shs 250,000 to the Boda Boda Sacco so as to help them in terms of developed.

Market/Mlimani ward Representative Seth Ochieng Kanga has lauded the move terming it a major milestone in the Boda Boda industry in Kisumu County.

Chief Officer in charge of Women, Youth, Women, Gender and People with Disability Affairs Haggai Kadiri says both the County Government of Kisumu and Boda Boda Riders will work together.

He says the Boda Boda business is an important economic arm within the county and should be supported.

“We can’t succeed without boda Boda industry within Kisumu County hence the need to support it because one can’t succeed without the boda boda industry,’ Kadiri says.

The Mlimani Boda Boda Riders Sacco officially started operations in March 2019 with a total of only 40 members.

Today, the Sacco has, managed to register up to 400 members and through their weekly saving of sh 300 per member it has managed to raise a capital of shs 800,000.

The Sacco has also managed to train about 100 of its riders who have been taken to driving schools and equipped with skills and license to offer quality and safe transport services.
