Illicit brew worth sh 192,000 destroyed in Kisumu West.

A total of 40 Cartons of illicit brew has been destroyed in Kisumu West Sub-County as a way of getting rid of the illicit liquor within the region.

Kisumu West Deputy County Commissioner Walter Ngaira says the illicit brew is from a neigbouring country and was intercepted by the police officers on patrol.

He says such illicit brew comes mostly through the Lake Victoria then being transported by the Boda Boda operators to various destinations.

Addressing the press after destroying about 4800 sachets of the illicit brew at Ojolla Market today, the Kisumu West Deputy County Commissioner said they have put measures in place to ensure that all illegal brews are netted and destroyed with immediate effect.

He says the illicit brew dealers target those in the construction sites as well as boda Boda operators as their sole customers especially during this festive season.

Ngaira says as people approach this festive season, this is the time the illicit brew will be consumed most, adding that his team will not give room to it.

“As we approach this festive season, we strongly believe that this is the time that illicit brews will be consumed most and I want to tell the people that we are on the lookout and will not relent in the fight against the illicit brew in our Sub-county,” Ngaira says.

He urges the public not to be the consumers of the illicit brew since they are sub-standard and are very dangerous for their lives.

Ngaira says his team will partner with both Kenya Revenue Authority and Kenya Wildlife Service so as to use their patrol boats so as to patrol the Lake Victoria with an aim of netting such illegal brews.
Ngaira was accompanied by the area Administration Police boss among other officers.
