I am still in Office, Says Nyando MP.

NYANDO Member of Parliament Jared Okello has confirmed that he is still serving as the area MP and will not now resign as he threatened two weeks ago if National Super Alliance Leader Raila Odinga is not sworn-in as the President.

Okello says after a very wide consultation with his constituents, Supporters and family members he has opted not to resign as Nyando Member of Parliament.

Addressing the press at his Nyando Rural Home near Nyalenda Primary school on Thursday, the Nyando Lawmaker said the Nasa Leader Raila Odinga has coincidentally reaffirmed his commitment of being sworn-in as the fifth President of Kenya hence this has again informs his decision now not to resign.

Okello says Odinga has highlighted measures to be undertaken before the grant event of his swearing-in, adding that he is convinced that the NASA leader will be sworn-in and take oath of office as the country’s fifth President.

“Having summarized our challenges and aspirations, I now turn to the germane issue of merits of continued stay in the current parliament. I publicly indicated that failure to swear-in the Right Honorable Raila Odinga as President would inform my resignation from the August House. Since the day I made that pronouncement, Odinga has coincidentally reaffirmed his commitment to carry the Bible and take Oath of office. He has highlighted measures to be undertaken before the grant event,” Okello says.

Okello says that a series of consultations with various people including the great people of Nyando constituency whom he is representing in the current Parliament, his family members as well as fellow leaders from the National Super Alliance and the Coalition’s three principals has also informed his decision of not resigning as a lawmaker representing Nyando Constituency.

“I have additionally had a series of consultation with the great people of Nyando constituency, My family Members, fellow leaders and Nasa Principals whom have all expressed apprehension and advised that we collectively fight for the rights of the people of Kenya from within Parliament,” Okello adds.

Secretary of the Baptist Convention of Kenya Shem Okello accompanied the Nyando MP during the press briefing.

The Nyando Member of Parliament last Monday on December 18 during the burial of veteran journalist Agawo Patrobas in Nyakach Constituency within Kisumu County threatened that he would resign within the next two weeks if Nasa Leader Raila Odinga is now sworn-in as the President of Kenya.

He said then that he was not elected to Parliament so as to serve as an opposition MP but was expecting to serve as an MP when Raila is President.

“I am going to resign is Raila Odinga is not sworn-in within the next two weeks and this is because I am not ready to share same floor of the House in Parliament with those who have stolen Raila’s victory,” he said.
