I have a five-year contract as City Manager of Kisumu, says Ombara.

KISUMU City Manager Dorris Ombara has clarified that she has a five-year contract running from August 28, 2015 to July 2020.

Ombara says she was competitively recruited as the City Manager of Kisumu by the then Kisumu County Public Service Board under its chairman Eng. Nashon Oguya and employed after successful process by the then County Government of Kisumu.

Addressing the media at her office within the City Hall in Kisumu today, the Kisumu City Manager said she is not doing her work on an acting capacity but as the duly employed City Manager of Kisumu City.

She says she her five-year contract is legitimate and runs till July 2020.

Ombara says those peddling lies that she has been suspended as the City Manager are out to mislead the public, adding that she is in office to stay until her contract expires in the year 2020.

“As far as I am concerned, I don’t know something about me being suspended as the City Manager.I have a five-year contract which I was duly given by the County Government of Kisumu on August 28,2015 to July 2020 and it is renewable based on my performance and meeting set targets,” Ombara says.

She clarifies that at some point for 18 months, she was hounded out of the office erroneously but after successfully challenging such an act in court, she made a comeback as the city Manager, adding that she has now done three years including the 18 months she was away.

“ For almost two years, I was erroneously hounded out of this office while working as the City Manager but the court saw the legitimacy of my contract and brought me back here as the City Manager,” she adds.

Ombara says she should be given time to work as the bonafide City manager who is on a legitimate contract and should not be distracted from performing her duties to the residents of Kisumu City.

She says her contract still has two more years for it to expire in the year 2020, adding that she is in the office legally.

Ombara who showed the press the documents to support her statement says she was recruited as the City Manager duly after being shortlisted, interview and being appointed to the Job as the City Manager.

“I don’t know where the issue of Acting City Manager comes from because you can’t act for a period of five years and on a job that was advertised on three daily newspapers,” she adds.

She adds that she only acted as a city manager when her predecessor Christopher Rusana left in the year 2013 and thereafter the position was advertised.

Ombara maintains that she has to finish her term as spelt out in the job contract she was given in the year 2015.

“For one to work in Kisumu, I have realized that one must not allow himself to be distracted by people who are out to tarnish one’s name. You must be focused,” she further says.

She adds that there is no letter suspending her as the City Manager, adding that what has been going round the social media as street talks which should be fully ignored.

She urges the residents of Kisumu City to fully support her as the City manager so as to be able to deliver the services and projects like the Kisumu Urban Project {KUP} which the County Government of Kisumu is implementing in Kisumu City.

Ombara further urges the residents of Kisumu to do justice to women leaders within Kisumu County by giving them easy time to perform their duties as leaders.
