cleaning Equipment worth sh 149million.
THE Management of Kisumu City has purchased equipment aimed
at helping in cleaning the Lake side city worth sh 149 million.
Kisumu City Manager Dorris Ombara says the equipment have
been purchased through the funds from Kisumu Urban Project {KUP}.
Addressing the press at her office within Kisumu City Hall,
Ombara said the equipment will greatly help in cleaning the city of Kisumu as
well as in the issue of gabbage collection.
Ombara says the Management of Kisumu City is fully committed
to ensuring that residents of Kisumu City have clean and healthy environment as
promised by the Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o.
The Kisumu City Manager says some of the equipment purchased
include a back hoe, trucks, two skip loader for carrying gabbage, lawn mowers,
tractors, four tones tipping trailers and buckets for collecting gabbage within
slum areas, double cabin pick-ups will
help in making a follow up on how gabbage collection is done within the city.
Others include eight trailers, tipping tone trailers which
are eight in number among others.
Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o has launched the
equipment at the City Hall.
She says they have also purchased hand tool equipment that
include 500 spades, 500 jembes and some light equipment.
The City Manager adds that branded protective clothing worth
2.4 million have also been purchased for those who will be helping in the
cleaning of the City of Kisumu.
She says a machine known as Compactor which will be used for
compressing the gabbage has also been procured, adding that it will cost sh 58.9
million and will soon be delivered.
“This machine known as a compactor will help in waste
management and we are investing 58.9 million on this,” Ombara say.
The Kisumu City manager also say a machine known as broomer
has been procured and will help in sweeping the roads while removing dust from
the roads in Kisumu City.
At the same time, Ombara says the refurbished Lumumba Health
Center in Kisumu city is near completion under the Kisumu urban project at a
cost of shs 113 million.
She says the hospital will now be a 200-bed facility, adding
that it will be of great help towards the Universal Health Care which has been
championed by Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o.
Ombara at the same time say, the procurement process towards
planning Kisumu City has already been done.
She says already three companies have been identified and
will help in planning purposes, adding that they include planning systems,
Group Wits from France and Kenya Consortium team.
Ombara says already a contract has been signed at a cost of
225million for planning purposes of the city of Kisumu alone.
The Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o signed the contract
yesterday at Kisumu City Hall.
