New ACK Maseno South Diocese Bishop consecrated in a colorful ceremony.

THE New Bishop for the Anglican Church of Kenya in charge of Maseno South Diocese has today been consecrated and enthroned in a ceremony that has been colorful in Kisumu.

The new Bishop Right Reverend Charles Ochieng’ Ong’injo has been enthroned as the fourth Bishop of the Maseno South Diocese to take over from the retired Bishop Dr. Francis Mwayi Abiero who has served the diocese for a record of 24 years since 1994.

Addressing the congregation at the Kisumu National Polytechnic where the ceremony has been held today, Anglican Church of Kenya Arch Bishop Jackson Ole Sapit who presided over the ceremony urged the Christians from the diocese to fully support the new Bishop in his new assignment.

Arch Bishop Sapit urged the new Bishop to serve the flock diligently without favor, adding that this he should do under the guidance of God who has chosen him.

During the consecration and enthronement of  Bishop Charles Ochieng Ong’injo as the new Bishop, he first took the Oath of Obedience before being presented for the consecration.

The Diocesan Chancellor thereafter called upon the retiring Bishop Mwayi Abiero who read his declaration of retirement.

“In accordance with the will of the ACK and with full agreement of the Synod of the Diocese of Maseno South, I Francis Mwayi Abiero do now relinquish Episcopal jurisdiction over this diocese, praying that God’s blessings, may continue rest upon his servant Charles Ong’injo as the fourth Bishop of this great diocese of Maseno South,” retired Bishop Dr. Abiero said.

The retired Bishop then knelt down together with his entire family members where they were prayed for.

The then Bishop Elect was then taken for Episcopal robes being escorted by two Bishops of the Church where he knelt down and a Moment of total silence was observed.

The Arch bishop Jackson Ole Sapit and other ACK Bishops stretched out their hands towards the new Bishop while praying for him.

After the consecration, the retired Bishop Dr. Abiero handed over the Crozier to the new Bishop Ong’injo while saying: “Charles Ochieng Ong’injo, receive this staff to serve as a constant reminder of your call to be a shepherd to the flock that Christ has put in your care, not by persuasion but by self-will, just as the Lord’s wills, not for selfish gain or for money but voluntarily. And may the Lord bless you as you Pastor the people of this diocese who have been under my care, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”

The new Bishop was then enthroned after the Provincial Chancellor read the Arch Bishop’s Enthronement mandate as directed by the Arch Bishop Ole Sapit and the Bishop took the Oath of office while the congregation applauded him  thereafter the Archdeacons enthroned the new Bishop on his seat.

The New ACK Maseno South diocese Bishop will be the fourth Bishop of the Diocese now taking over from the retired Bishop Dr. Francis Mwayi Abiero who has served the Diocese for a period of 24 years.

He was elected the Bishop of the Diocese on August 25 this year and has now been consecrated and enthroned as the new Bishop.

Dr. Abiero took over from the Dr. Henry Okullu in 1994 and has served since then till this November when he has retired. Dr. Okullu died after retirement  as the Bishop of ACK Maseno South diocese.
