We will arrest excess passengers in public service vehicles, regional police boss says.

ALL the excess passengers who travel in Public Service Vehicles within Nyanza region will be arrested, Nyanza regional Police Boss has said.

The Nyanza regional Police Boss Leonard Katana says traffic rules does not allow execs passengers to be carried inside public service vehicles.

Addressing the press at his office in Kisumu, Katana said the police will only allow public service vehicles to carry only the number of passengers who are allowed by the law to be carried within such vehicles.

He says excess  passengers commit traffic offence and will be arrested and charged in court, adding no one should allow himself to be carried inside a PSV as an excess passengers.

“We will only allow PSVs to carry the number of passengers whom the law has allowed them to carry and any excess passengers will be arrested and prosecuted in court,” Katana says.

He urges passengers to be wary and not enter into a PSV which is full and will be carried in excess.

He says an excess passenger cannot have a safety belt while travelling in a PSV hence should never try to be in a vehicle knowing that he is an excess passenger.

He says even the issue of extra seats in PSVs known as sambaza will not be allowed to be used by excess passengers.

He says plans are underway to enhance road safety activities within the region and will help in enlighten the public as the festive months approaches.

He says the police will continue with the crackdown on unroadworthy vehicles, adding that this will be done in accordance to the law.

He urges the owners of the Public Service Vehicles to maintain their vehicles so as to be in good conditions at all the time, adding that they should ensure that all the gadgets needed are fitted as required by the law.

Katana says the issue of speed check will be enhanced so as to ensure that the vehicles operate within the required speed while on the road.

He says the issue of dangerous loading by the Public Service Vehicles will also be checked.

Katana urges all the passengers to fasten the safety belts whenever they are traveling as this is for their own safety.

  1. That,s Avery good move,but he has not told us something about his boys because they are the same guys who are going to carry out the excise.who will cheque on them when they will be asking for their Lunch from the said PSV operator's.
