Authority gives Lathe
Machine to 23 artisans after training in Kisumu
The Micro and Small Enterprise Authority has given a Lathe
Machine to total of 23 artisans through their associations in Kisumu Central
constituency within Kisumu County to help in improving good productivity and
standards.
The 23 artisans who are Micro Small Entrepreneurs have also
received practical trainings on how to use the acquired lathe machine.
Addressing the artisans of Kisumu Central Constituency Industrial
Development Centre {CIDC} during the presentation of the certificates to the
trained artisans and handing over the lathe machine, Micro and Small Enterprise
Authority Senior Assistant Director Tabitha Gicheru in charge of Manufacturing
and Agribusiness said the artisans have also been trained on multi-faced
equipment used in the production of steel works and metal fabrication.
Gicheru says the Authority has also sensitized and mobilized
six Micro Small Entrepreneurs Associations so as to register with Registrar of
Micro Small Entrepreneurs.
She says such registration drive is aimed to formalize the
sector to inform policy and structured government interventions.
Gicheru says the purpose of the Authority is to ensure that
the product it gives to the community is of standard.
“We ensure that the product we give to the community or the
market is of good standards and therefore we need the machines to help us be
able to meet the required standards and quality products for Kenyan, East
African, African and even the Global market,” she says.
She urges the trained artisans now to be trainers of
trainees and transfer the knowledge of technology to others within the
communities.
Gicheru says there is need to train new groups of
Associations of Artisans at the Authority’s Kariobangi Center of Excellence.
She adds that the lathe machine helps the artisans to
produce metal products for various uses in the community.
Kevin Okoth, one of the trained artisans says the trainings
received is an eye opener to the artisans since they have been equipped with a
lot of skills on metal work among others.
He says as a trained artisan he will now go to the community
and trained more people to get the knowledge.
