Call for recognition of Intermediary cities’
role as Africities kicks off in Ksm
The ninth Edition of
Africities 2022 has kicked off in Kisumu City with a call to fully recognize the role
of Intermediary cities in Africa.
The Chairman of the
Africa Union Commission Moussa Faki says the role of the intermediary cities in
Africa are very vital and should never be overlooked.
Addressing the
gathering during the official opening ninth Edition of Africities in Kisumu
City today, Faki said a lot of attention has been given to capital cities
leaving the Intermediary cities.
He says the roles of
Intermediary cities should be recognized and classified.
Kenyan's President
Uhuru Kenyatta has called on the continent of Africa to fully recognise the
role of Intermediary cities of Africa in the implementation of the Agenda 2030
of the United Nations and the African Union Agenda of 2063.
"Time is ripe for
Africans to recognize the role of Intermediary Cities in Africa," President
Kenyatta says.
He says there is need
for proper urban planning for the good growth of the Intermediary cities in
Africa.
He says technology
should be enhanced to speed up the growth of Intermediary cities across Africa.
"Robust Legal and
policy framework should be developed for the Intermediate cities," Uhuru
says.
Kenyatta has underscored
that there should be scaling up of efforts in supporting Intermediary cities
across Africa.
He further urges
Africans to fully unite and realize the Agenda 2030 and African Union Agenda 2063.
