Don’t curse Raila over running mate issue, clergy says

The clergy in Nyanza region have told some of their counterparts in Ukambani region not to curse Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance Presidential aspirant Raila Odinga on the issue of running mate which have brought up mixed reactions as plans to get one got notch higher.

Under the banner of the Nyanza Council of Church Leaders, a section of clergy in Nyanza region say some of the clergy from Ukambani region who have threatened to curse Odinga if he does not appoint Kalonzo Musyoka as his running mate is not right at all.

Through the council’s chairman Apostle Washington Ogonyo Ngede said such utterance about cursing political leaders is not right at all.

“We highly condemn in the strongest terms possible utterances recently made by a section of the clergy from Ukambani region that seems to be forcing Azimio la Umoja one Kenya Alliance Presidential aspirant Raila Odinga to appoint Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka as his Deputy failure to which he will face a curse from such clergy,” Ngede says.

He says the clergy should know that the Bible says in the book of Daniel 2:21 “And He changes times and seasons. He removes Kings and raises up Kings.”

“This is only God’s obligation and not any other person since leadership is anointed by God Himself. The Bible says in the book of Numbers 23:7-8 and he took up his oracles and said: “Balak the King of Moab has brought me from Aram, from the Mountains of East, come curse Jacob for me and come denounce Israel. How can I curse who God has not cursed?

Ngede has called upon Kenyans wait for the outcome from the Taskforce that was recently formed and mandated to interview with an aim of coming up with a suitable person to be Odinga’s running mate rather than some clergy trying to arm twist the process midway.

He adds that the members of the Clergy should help in conducting prayers so that a genuine running mate is found but should not issue threat in the ongoing process.

“In the book of Luke 9:53-56 says: “ but they did not receive Him because his face was set for the journey to Jerusalem and when his disciples James and John saw this they said, Lord do you want us to command fire to come down from Heaven and consume them just as Elijah did? But he turned and rebuked them and said, you do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the son of man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them,” he further adds.

The chairman further says the clergy should never issue ultimatum and should leave the process to the experts to do their work without any form of interference. They should never be acting on behalf of someone who is not the member of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.

He is of the opinion that the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance has been established to unite Kenyans but not to divide them, adding that whoever has the Spirit of Azimio should unite Kenyans and pray while waiting for God to give the Coalition’s running mate.

“Let us pray and leave it for God to give us what He wants for Kenyans. We are praying to have a President and his deputy who are ready fight corruption when they take office after the August 9 General Election. This is because corruption is the vice that has derailed the country’s economy,” he further says.
