Four treatment Centers set up in Kisumu to tackle cases of Cholera.

A TOTAL of Four Health facilities in Kisumu County have been set up to help in treatment of victims of Cholera disease which has been reported in some parts of the county.

Kisumu County Committee Executive member in charge of Health Dr. Elizabeth Ogaja says the four health facilities will greatly help in tackling cases of cholera.

She says the four centers are Kodiaga Health Center, Port Florence private hospital in Otonglo Market, St.Mark’s Lela Health Center and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu City.

Addressing the press at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital {JOOTRH}, Dr. Ogaja who spoke in the company of her two counterparts Water and environment and Information and communication Technology said so far a total of 28 people have been diagnosed with Cholera.

She says 23 of the victims are from Kodiaga Prisons and three are members of the local community.
She urges anyone who has shown signs and symptoms of cholera to visit immediately any health center for immediate treatment.

Dr. Ogaja also urges the public to help in preventing the outbreak of the disease, adding that children are very vulnerable to the disease and the public should be very particular with them.

Kisumu County Executive committee member in charge of Water and environment Prof. Barrack Abonyo says they have tested water provided by the Kisumu Water and Sewerage company{KIWASCO} and have found out that it is not contaminated with cholera hence safe for drinking and  other domestic uses.

He says they have also tested the water of a river near Kodiaga prisons which the facility uses and have found that t is highly contaminated by Cholera germs.

He urges the Kodiaga prisons authority to use the chlorine the county Government of Kisumu has provided them with in the treatment of water for drinking.

Abonyo also urges the members of the public in Otonglo area to get clean and safe drinking water from various water kiosks put up by the Kisumu water and sewerage company.

Kisumu County Director of Health Dr. Dickens Onyango urges those who do the business of food vending to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Public Health Act on food handling.

He urges them to comply with the issue of proper sanitation while handling food.

Dr.Onyango has also urged those who will use their vehicles and tuk tuks in ferrying people suspected to be having cholera disease to ensure that they are disinfected at the health facilities they visit so as to avoid further spread of the disease.
