Kisumu County ODM Party Gubernatorial Candidate Prof.Peter
Anyang Nyongo has reiterated that he will immediately form a Revenue Board to
look into the issue of local revenue collection and management if elected the
next governor during the next month’s General Elections.
Nyong’o says the formation of the Board known as Kisumu County
Revenue Board is very critical in the management of the revenue generated
locally within the county.
Speaking at Kisumu’s Social Hall during meeting with over 2,000 women in a bid to
drum up support for his election bid as the next Kisumu County Governor,
Nyong’o says counties like Meru has formed such a board and has greatly helped
in increase of the local revenue generated there.
He says Kisumu County has great potentials hence a good
amount from local revenue can be generated so as to also help in developing the
county.
“A county like Meru which used to generate only a paltry 800
million locally can now boast of getting about 2.1 billion annually as its
local revenue and this is after they formed their county revenue board to
oversee the management of local revenue. I believe the same can be replicated
in Kisumu here and we will do it if given a chance to be in the leadership
position at the county,” Nyong’o says.
He adds that this will greatly help in sealing various
loopholes used by some few individuals at the county in swindling the funds
generated from the local revenue collection to their own pockets.
Nyong’o says he will
ensure if elected as the next Governor of Kisumu to address the interests of
women, Youth and people with disabilities within the county.
He says 30 percent of employment of top county workers will
go to either gender as provided by law.
Nyong’o has promised the electorate that Kisumu County will
be very much different under his leadership if elected the next Governor when
he will be implementing his manifesto with a theme “ the Mission is possible”.
“I will ensure
clanism, corruption, nepotism and favoritism are not the order of the day
during my reign as the Governor of Kisumu County,” Nyong’o says.
Nyong’o at the same time says if he forms the next government
of Kisumu County as its Governor, he will ensure that he strengthens the
county’s health care system by ensuring that there are proper structures as
well as medication in various facilities.
He says the next county Government under his leadership and
Dr. Mathews Owili as his Deputy will ensure
that all the Community Health Workers {CHWs} within the county are paid monthly
salaries and this must be factored in the budget.
“When I was the Minister for Medical Services, I fully
recognized the vital role played by the Community Health Workers across the
country hence if elected the next Governor of Kisumu County I will ensure that
the CHWs are paid a monthly salary so as help in motivating them in the course
of their work and this must be factored in the budget and approved by the
County Assembly,” he adds.
Nyong'o also says his government will issue the Community Health Workers with NHIF Card so that they can access treatment using the card in various health facilities across the county.
Nyong’o has also dismissed rumors going round that if he
becomes the next Governor he will ensure that Boda Boda operators are blocked
from coming within the Kisumu Central Business District, adding that this is
just a pure lie peddled by one of his opponents.
He also says that it is a pure lie that if he becomes the
next Governor of Kisumu County, he will sell the Miwani sugar Factory and the
farmers land next to the factory.
“One of my opponents has embarked on smear campaigns and
cheap propaganda which cannot help at all at this moment. I therefore urge the
electorate to vote us in during the next month’s polls so that we are able to
bring a change that the county yearns,” he concludes.
