KISUMU Governor Jack Ranguma has clarified that he has not purchased the posh Imperial Hotel within the Kisumu City Central Business District as claimed by a section of politicians within the county.

Ranguma says the hotel is still owned by the Mayfair Holdings Limited, a company associated with a Mr. Gilani hence he has not purchased it at all as claimed by some of his opponents who are competing to unseat him in the next month’s General Elections.

Speaking at Kisumu Hotel during a media breakfast meeting on Friday, Ranguma caused a prolong laughter among the participants when he said that he does not even have money to purchase a bicycle and wondered where he could have gotten the huge sum of money to purchase the posh hotel.

“I don’t have money even to buy a bicycle, how then can I have money to buy a hotel like Imperial Hotel,”? Ranguma wondered.

He dismisses the story as rumors being peddled by his opponents whom he has accused of telling the electorates lies against him.

He wonders how he can be in a position of buying the magnificent hotel yet its management is doing some expansion work and rehabilitating it currently.

“Some of my opponents are busy telling the electorate lies about me especially as we now are closer to the elections and this is very bad. On my part I do not know how to tell lies,” he adds.

Ranguma has also distanced himself from claims that he also owns the Victoria Suite Hotel situated at the posh Mlimani Estate with Kisumu City.

Ranguma who is seeking a re-election as an independent candidate  so as to serve his second and final term in office as the Kisumu County Governor says he only went to officiate the official opening of the new facility and wonders why he has been linked with it as its owner.

“I have to commission property for development within various parts of Kisumu County by various investors who are ready to put in their money to do investments,” he further says.

Rumors that the Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma has purchased the Imperial Hotel have been heard for a while and the Ranguma’s sentiment that he does not own the hotel now offers clarity on the issue.

Prof.Peter Anyang Nyong’o who is the ODM Party Gubernatorial Candidate in Kisumu county last week claimed during a National Super Alliance Political rally at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground in Kisumu that Governor Ranguma has allegedly purchased Imperial Hotel worth millions of shillings.
