Clergy urges Government to give more help to flood victims in Kisumu County.

A CLERGY has urged both the national and County Government of Kisumu to give more help to those who have been affected by the raging floods in parts of Kisumu County following heavy rains witnessed so far.

Arch Bishop of the Legion Maria of African Church Mission in charge of Bondo Arch Diocese Lazarus Obera says the heavy rains witnessed so far in the country with Kisumu County included have caused great havoc to the residents and a number of properties lost due to the raging floods.

Addressing the congregation at St. Peter’s Legion Maria of African Church Mission at Manyatta in Kisumu during yesterday’s Sunday Mass that was also attended by Journalists from Radio Ramogi Fm led by Charles Odhiambo who came to worship with the Church Members, Arch Bishop Obera said parts of Muhoroni and Nyando Sub-Counties in Kisumu County have been greatly affected by the floods.

The Clergy says the National Government and the County Government of Kisumu have tried to give assistance to the victims of flood but a lot still needs to be done.

“The heavy rains have really caused great havoc to a section of residents of Kisumu County and we still make appeal to both the National and County Governments to continue give more assistance to the victims who have been affected by the flood,” he says.

Arch Bishop Obera adds that a lot of prayers should be conducted so that the country should not continue to witness more floods and other calamities which have bedeviled the country in the recent past.

Obera has thanked the efforts made so far by other agencies like the Kenya Red Cross Society in offering humanitarian assistance to the floods of Victims across various parts of the country where floods have caused great havoc.

Charles Odhiambo from Radio Ramogi has urged the residents of Nyanza region to embark on planting more trees and stop cutting down trees aimlessly to protect the environment.

Odhiambo says planting more trees will greatly help in protecting the environment.

“I want to urge the residents of this region not to cut down trees aimlessly and embark on planting more trees so as to help in protecting environment,” Odhiambo says.
