Police vetting will be concluded after Inspectors are vetted, NPSC says.

THE Ongoing vetting for police officers in the country will be concluded soon after Inspectors of Police are vetted, the National Police Service Commission has said.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Police Service Commission Joseph Onyango has said current the Commission is vetting the police officers in the rank of Chief Inspectors and will then vet the Inspectors of Police.

Addressing the press in Kisumu after presiding over a ceremony where police officers from Nyanza region have been trained on First Aid by St. Johns Ambulance, Onyango said after vetting the police officers in the rank of Inspectors the exercise will stop.

He says the vetting of Police officers begun with senior ones and will end with the Inspectors this year.

Onyango says the rest of the officers will not be vetted but will but will be judged with their performance where non performers will be dismissed from the Police service while those who perform will be retained.

On the issue of training police officers on first Aid, he says it is prudent for the officers to be trained on the issue.

Elisha Guya, St. Johns Ambulance Commissioner in Charge of Nyanza region says the first aid training is of great help to the police officers especially when they visit the accident scenes.

“First aid is in the curriculum of the police and this is why we have to train them on this issue,” he says.

He says the training started from the county level before they came to the regional one, adding that the best team from Nyanza region will represent the region at national level.

“We have been focusing on the police because they are the ones who arrive at the scene of disasters, accidents first hence this training is very vital,” he adds.
