Lobby Condemns
Nominees for the Kisumu City Management Board.
A LOBBY Group in Kisumu County has strongly condemned a list
of nominees announced recently by Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o so as to
be members of the Kisumu City Management Board after being approved by the
County Assembly of Kisumu.
The lobby known as Kisumu County Accountability Watch claims
the proposed names was done in skewed, favoritism and nepotism championed.
In a letter dated 12-5-2018 written by Audi Ogada, a
resident and a voter in Kisumu County, Ogada through the Lobby claims that the
exercise was riddled with corruption, adding that as much as the list that was
recently submitted to the Clerk of County Assembly of Kisumu was allegedly
tampered with in respect to sector representation.
Ogada claims that some of the people in the list are
representing sectors for which they were not shortlisted for interview.
“A case in point is; informal sector represented by Sagar Nichandrah
Shah, Private Sector represented by Salim Farida Ahmed, neighborhood
represented by Sheila Adhiambo Okal. The Urban Areas and Cities Act 2011, is
very explicit on the composition of the City Management Board,” Ogada says in
his letter.
Ogada says that the youth fraternity has also been left out
in the proposed names yet they form the largest number of population and voters
in Kisumu County.
“It is against this background that we demand the following
to be effected immediately; names of all the applicants who were shortlisted
for the interview and the sector they represented, performance of each
applicant in the interview, recall immediately the list of nominees submitted
to the National Assembly , Immediate removal of Sagar Nichandrah Shah, Salim Farida
Ahmed and Sheila Adhiambo Okal from the sectors they purport to represent,” the
letter adds.
The lobby has threatened to hold peaceful mass
demonstrations and seek legal redress without further reservations if the above
demands are not met.
On April 12 this year, Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang' Nyong'o nominated 11 people to be in the Kisumu City Management Board and the County Assembly of Kisumu is yet to approve the names.
Individual member categories include Lawrence Gumbe, John Omija, Obware Ken Akoko, Charles Owoko Ochome, Elijah Adul and Rose Arungu Olende.
Former Nominated Councilor who is also a former Mayor Sam Okello has been nominated to represent an association of towns while Sheila Okal has been nominated to represent registered neighborhood association.
Peris Ochola and Salim Farida Ahmed has been nominated to represent professionals and Private Sector respectively while Sagar Nichandrah
Shah has been nominated to represent informal sector.
