We need to focus on the next CBA for Teachers, says Sossion.

THE Kenya National Union of Teachers needs to focus on the next Collective Bargaining Agreement for teachers across the country.

Knut Secretary General Wilson Sossion says this should now be the focus as the giant union continues to monitor the implementation of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement {CBA}.

Speaking in Kisumu during the official closure of a three day workshop for the all Knut Executive Branch Secretaries across the Country at Tom Mboya Labour College, Sossion said focusing on the next CBA should be where the union channels most of its energy.

“We must begin focusing on the next CBA and this is where we need to put our acts together,” he says.

He says the Union is also monitoring the implementation of the current CBA, adding that this is the first CBA for teachers which its implementation should be monitored closely, adding that the CBA will ensure that its members are satisfied.

He says the union will also try to deal with the issue of delocalization of teachers which has not been accepted by teachers across the country.

“We need to talk to the Teachers Service Commission so as to discuss a number of issues that includes delocalization of teacher, TIPAD and appraisals. These are matters which we must deal with effectively,” Sossion says.

He says the union will also discuss the issue of pending promotion for teachers across the country.
He says the union will continue to advocate for the employment of new teachers across the country so as to help in addressing the current high demand due to growing class sizes both in primary and secondary schools.

Sossion has also rubbished claims that Knut is divided saying that the Union is very much united and working as a team currently.

“There is no faction is knut at all and we are fully united as being  led by our national chairman Wickliffe Omucheyi, so whoever is claiming that we are not united, is not telling the truth,” Sossion adds.

He says the union will address teachers’ issue as a united entity, adding the union has been very much united for the last 61 years when it was formed.

During the training of the Knut Branch Secretaries in Kisumu for three days, they have been trained on negotiations, Mobilizations, advocacy and on trade union ideologies.

Sossion adds that the training will help the Branch Executive Secretaries in offering quality leadership within their areas of jurisdiction.
