Ombeyi ward residents urge county Government
to address the issue of bad roads caused by flood.
Residents of Ombeyi ward in Kisumu County have urged the
County Government of Kisumu under Prof. Anyang Nyong’o to tackle the issue of
the roads which have been extensively damaged by floods following heavy
downpour witnessed in the area.
The residents led by their former Member of the County
Assembly Missionary Joshua Atieno Auko said the status of roads within the ward
is very pathetic especially Ahero- Miwani Road near Ombeyi market is impassable
because the water has cut off the road and render it impassable.
They add that Ahero to Ombeyi is not now easily accessible
since the road is impassable.
They say that the County Government’s department in charge
of roads should do something concerning the roads within the area.
The residents proposed that as temporary measures, the
County Government should consider bringing to them stones in Lorries so that
the roads affected are passable.
“We cannot access Ombeyi area from Ahero in Nyando
constituency since the roads have completely blocked as a result of the raging
floods which has brought with it a lot of water. We therefore appeal to the
County Government of Kisumu to come to our rescue,” they say.
They claim that their ward has become an island in Kisumu
County hence needs serious interventions by the County Government.
They say that vehicles have stuck at the two entry points to
the ward hence making it inaccessible at all for those with vehicles.
“We have been forced to access our ward through Ngere-Kagoro
which is several miles away from this place since we cannot access it from the
normal points,” they add.
They at the same time want the Kigoche Youth Polytechnic to
be closed immediately claiming that it has no students put the tutors are there
being paid through tax payers’ money.
“There is no need for us to have a polytechnic here with no
students at all hence the need to close it down at all cost,” they added.
They have threatened to organize for a peaceful
demonstration up to the County Government of Kisumu’s offices in Kisumu city to
register their displeasure on the status of roads within their ward.
“We will organize a mother of all the demonstration since we
cannot access our ward through Ahero. If this is what the County Government
will here then let it be so,” they further said.
The residents at the same time appealed to the current area
MCA Vitalis Otura to ensure that the issue of floods within the ward is
addressed adequately at the county assembly of Kisumu.
