KPC finishes repairs following pipeline leaking in Kisumu.

THE Kenya Pipeline Company has successfully finished repairing one of its lines following a pipeline leak that caused an oil spillage in Kisumu last Friday.

KPC Managing Director Joe Sang says the company has managed to finish  the repair in its Sinendet-Kisumu line following the incident.

Addressing the media in Kisumu today,KPC Managing Director said the leak on the line's KM 114 which serves Western  Kenya and Eastern Africa region was occasioned by siphoning of fuel by a rogue trader.

"Kenya Pipeline  Company is working very closely with the police and other relevant arms of the government to ensure that the culprits of this dreadful act are arrested and brought to book,"he adds.

He adds that the company's  safety and environment teams have already started the clean up so as to help in restoring the environment after the repairs have been completed.

"As per our company procedures, our environment, health and safety experts have already embarked on an environmental  bioremediation exercise to ensure the site is taken back to its original status," Sang adds.

He says the process will be carried out in partnership with the National Environmental  Management  Authority(NEMA) so as to have this process undertaken professionally.

He urges the local community who are in close proximity to the incident area to avoid the clean-up site so as to give the Company's engineers enough time to clean it up.

The Company has assured all the.oil marketing companies and Kenyans in general that the incident did not affect its stock levels at all.
