KPC finishes repairs following pipeline leaking in Kisumu.
THE
Kenya Pipeline Company has successfully finished repairing one of its
lines following a pipeline leak that caused an oil spillage in Kisumu
last Friday.
KPC Managing Director Joe Sang says the
company has managed to finish the repair in its Sinendet-Kisumu line
following the incident.
Addressing
the media in Kisumu today,KPC Managing Director said the leak on the
line's KM 114 which serves Western Kenya and Eastern Africa region was occasioned by siphoning of fuel by a rogue trader.
Sang
says following the incident,Police in Kisumu are investigating it and
it may lead to the arrests of the suspected criminals in the act.
"Kenya
Pipeline Company is working very closely with the police and other
relevant arms of the government to ensure that the culprits of this
dreadful act are arrested and brought to book,"he adds.
He
adds that the company's safety and environment teams have already
started the clean up so as to help in restoring the environment after
the repairs have been completed.
"As
per our company procedures,our environment,health and safety experts
have already embarked on an environmental bioremediation exercise to
ensure the site is taken back to its original status," Sang adds.
He
says the process will be carried out in partnership with the National
Environmental Management Authority(NEMA) so as to have this process
undertaken professionally.
He
urges the local community who are in close proximity to the incident
area to avoid the clean-up site so as to give the Company's engineers
enough time to clean it up.
The
Company has assured all the.oil marketing companies and Kenyans in
general that the incident did not affect its stock levels at all.
"We have sufficient stocks all the grades across our depots across the country," he further adds.
