Nyakach Leaders forum seeks way forward towards the area’s development.

A NUMBER of Leaders from Nyakach Sub-County are out to discuss how the region can prosper in terms of development.

Under the banner of Nyakach Leaders Forum, the leaders from the region have engaged in a two day conference whose theme is Nyakach Dialogue on Devolution, Social and Economic Heritage.

Addressing the media after the two days conference at Sondu Miriu Hydropower project’s Base camp with Kolweny in South West Nyakach Ward, Nyakach Leaders Forum Chairman Jack Orinda said the forum has mapped out six areas which they have discussed exhaustively that can help in the development of the region.

Orinda says the six areas include Education, Security, Youth and Women in Development, Food Security, Investments and Opportunities and resource utilization and Management.

“Our theme which is dialogue on Devolution, Social and Economic Heritage is meant to stimulate the minds of the intellectuals so that they see what they can plough back home to leap into the future with confidence. Dialogue is a very powerful term because no development can be achieved without it,” the Chairman says.

He says Nyakach Leaders should be able to plan and develop their markets, Farms, Roads, Rivers among others.

The forum says Katito Market within the region which is a fast growing urban center should be immediately turned into a town with the support of the County Government of Kisumu under the current Governor Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o.

“The boundaries of Katito market should be marked then infrastructure be set up after a survey so that investors are sourced to help it take off. I propose the boundaries to go as far as river Awach up to Tok Teko ,Kobogo, Store Pamba along river,” the Chair adds.

He further says that when talking about Dialogue, Social and Economic Haritage, it is actually looking at the key tenets of factors that life is anchored.

The Chair adds that the society cannot fully function when social and economic fabrics are eroded hence one cannot talk about heritage when he has none at all.

A Member of the Forum Christopher Ojienda Odayo says the move is welcomed because it will surely help to spur development within Nyakach Sub-County.

He says the forum brings together all the stakeholders with an aim of discussing development for Nyakach region.

Ojienda says the forum also encourages public participation, adding that public participation is the oxygen for development of any region.

He says even the issue of Oil which has been discovered in Nyakach area should be discussed by all the stakeholders within the area.

Ojienda says the region can prosper when they embrace unity towards the common goal of developing it economically, socially and politically.

The forum brought together about 200 people from Nyakach in different sectors from National Government, County Government, Churches, Politicians, Non-Governmental Organizations and Community Based Organizations to dialogue on what is best for Nyakach as a region.
