Open up on issues of Gender Based Violence, Nyanza Police Boss tells public.

MEMBERS of the Public have been urged to open up on the issues of Gender Based Violence in Nyanza Region.

Nyanza Regional Police Coordinator Leonard Katana says by opening up on the issues of Gender Based Violence, it will help in curbing it.

Speaking to this writer at his office in Kisumu today, the Nyanza regional Police Boss said the public should come up and speak about the issue without fear.

He says the public should also know how to deal with domestic issues, adding that there are so many ways of solving such a problem whenever it arises within the society.

“We can negotiate, dialogue among others whenever a domestic issue arises within the society,” he says.

He says the issues of stigma still hinders the public to open up on the issues, adding that most police stations nowadays have Gender Based Violence desks.

“I want the public to open up and make reports on the issues of Gender Based Violence happening in their areas as this will help the police to make a follow up to these cases,” he says.

He says if the public opens up on such issues then a lot can be prevented in regard to the vice.

He says a number of Police officers have been trained on how to handle such cases and are ready to help the public.

“We have now put police officers who have been trained on issues of Handling Gender Based Violence and the public should be ready to open up and report to such cases to the police station,” Katana says.

The Nyanza Regional Police Boss says all the stakeholders should take their roles seriously so as to be able to help in addressing such like cases.
He adds that the Criminal Justice System has a mandate to do and should do such to their best.

The Nyanza regional Police Boss at the same time adds that the police in the region has enhanced their effort to fight the issue of illicit brew.

He says there is need for the public to say NO to the illicit brew as this will greatly help in winning the fight against it.

He says there should be a way to cut the market for such illicit brew as this is the surest way to ensure that the illicit brew is nowhere to be seen.

He adds that any police officer who will be found in aiding the entry of illicit brew within the region will be dealt with in accordance to the law.

“The public should shun the illicit brew and the market about this should not be entertained at all cost as this will help in the fight against the illicit brew in this region,” he further says.
