Ksm MCAs have
orientation ahead of their swearing-in
A NUMBER of Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu both
elected and nominated in the third Assembly have today undergone orientation
process before they are sworn-in tomorrow.
Clerk to the County Assembly of Kisumu Owen Ojuok says they
have carried out the process ahead of the swearing-in ceremony to be held
tomorrow in order to make the MCAs to familiarize themselves the House Rules
and procedures.
Ojuok says the MCAs have also been taken through a process
of capturing their details to be part of the Third Assembly Data as its new
members.
The Clerk says both the MCAs-Elect and the nominated ones
have also been oriented on the issue of the election of the Speaker and the
Deputy Speaker which will be conducted immediately after swearing-in of all of
the MCAs.
He says so far the County Assembly of Kisumu registered a
total of 25 both elected and Nominated MCAs during orientation process as more
were expected to come for the process as the day progressed but by the time of
going to press, the number stood at 25.
The County Assembly
of Kisumu has 35 MCAs-elect and 12 nominated ones bringing a total of 47
Members who will be sworn-in tomorrow September 20,2022.
Ojuok has said both all the MCAs-Elect and those nominated
should attend the orientation process ahead of their swearing-in so as to
familiarize themselves with the house rules and procedures among other issues
within the precinct of the Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Clerk to the County Assembly of Kisumu have
confirmed that all the necessary preparations towards the swearing-in have been
completed.
He adds that preparations on the issue of the election of
the Speaker of the County Assembly of Kisumu has been too completed, adding
that the election materials have been made available for tomorrow’s function at
the County Assembly of Kisumu.
Ojuok further adds that a total of ten people have applied
for the position of the Speaker but only six candidates have returned the
nomination forms by today noon which has been the deadline.
He says for the position of Deputy Speaker, five people
picked nomination papers but only two returned the forms during today’s noon deadline.
Two MCAs-Elect Seth Ochieng Kanga{Market/Mlimani} and
Jennipher Obonyo from South West Kisumu Wards have said that the County
Assembly of Kisumu needs an impartial Speaker and they will elect one who will
show impartiality at all times during the House Proceedings.
