Wait for ODM Party’s directive
on Speaker’s seat, Nyong’o tells Ksm MCAs-elect
Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o has asked the
elected Members of the County Assembly to wait for the Orange Democratic
Movement Party directive over the election of the Speaker of the County
Assembly of Kisumu.
Nyong’o says it has come to their attention
that a section of Members of the County Assembly are holding meetings to discuss
the forthcoming election of the Speaker of the Assembly.
“I wish to advise the Assembly leadership to wait for directives from the
ODM Party over the Assembly elections,” Governor Nyong’o says in a press
statement.
Nyong’o says that directive will be
issued soon in the same manner in which the six piece voting policy was given
and which facilitated the election of all current ODM party MCAs.
“I am shocked to hear that at a time when the whole AZIMIO fraternity is
still in deep reflection on the way forward after the tragedy we have gone
through, a few selfish individuals have forced the Assembly into a near frenzy
campaign mood, using money shamelessly to buy support, which is very
embarrassing to the national party leadership,” Nyong’o adds.
Nyong’o adds: “We are going through difficult times Indiscipline and
shameless ambition is not a useful asset for the ODM Party at this point in
time in particular.”
The Kisumu Governor has asked all the elected Members of the
Assembly to keep off what he has termed as disruptive meetings convened to discuss the Speaker’s position as these could cause discord in the
party.
Nyong’os sentiment comes barely a few
days after it has emerged that a section of Members of the County Assembly of
Kisumu who were recently elected have been holding meetings to find a way forward
towards the issue of the election of the new County Assembly Speaker for the Third
Assembly.
Already camps have emerged with some
MCAs are supporting former Majority Leader Samson Ong’ow while others
supporting the current Speaker Elisha Jack Oraro.
