Third County Assembly of Ksm kicks off its first sitting on Tuesday

THE third Assembly of Kisumu County will kick off its first sitting on Tuesday next week.

The Clerk to the County Assembly of Kisumu Owen Ojuok in a notice says pursuant to the Standing Order Number 3 {1} of the Kisumu County Assembly Standing Orders, the Governor of Kisumu Prof Anyang Nyong’o has appointed the first sitting of the third Assembly of Kisumu to be held on Tuesday September 20, 2022 at the County Assembly Building along Uhuru Road adjacent to Kisumu Central Police station at 9:00am.

The Clerk says the Notice is issued to the Elected and Nominated Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu and the general public.

The notice further says Pursuant to Article 178 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, Section 9A of the County Government {Amendment} Act 2020 and the Standing Order Number 4 of the Kisumu County Assembly Standing Orders, the office of the Speaker and that of the Deputy Speaker Shall become vacant upon the first sitting of the County Assembly of Kisumu on Tuesday September 20, 2022 at 9:00am.

The notice reminds those who are qualified in accordance to Section 25 of the Elections Act, 2011 to be elected as Members of the County Assembly but not such members are therefore invited to submit their nomination for the election of the Speaker, adding that the Deputy Speaker Shall be elected among the Member of the County Assembly immediately upon the completion of the election of the Speaker.

The Clerk to the County Assembly of Kisumu has reminded all the elected and nominated Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu to go for their orientation program on Monday September 19, 2022 ahead of the first sitting of the Third County Assembly the following day.

The notice comes barely a few days after various candidates for the position of the Speaker of the County Assembly of Kisumu are trying to woo both the elected and nominated Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu to their side ahead of the first sitting of the third Assembly of Kisumu.

Already, three people have shown their interests for the Speaker’s position and camps have emerged among both the elected and nominated Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu.

They include the outgoing Speaker of the County Assembly of Kisumu Elisha Jack Oraro, former Majority leader during the first County Assembly of Kisumu Samuel Ong’ow and Lawyer Kenneth Amondi.
