Luo community told to retreat on Presidency and re-focus on development

THE Luo Community in the country have been urged to take a retreat on the issue of Presidency and re-focus on issues that can help them develop further as a community.

The members of the community have been urged to retreat and reflect in order to find a common path for the community towards progress.

Coordinator of Grass Roots Trust Lawrence Apiyo says the community’s focus should now be education and professionalism which will be of great help to the community at large.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today, Apiyo said by focusing on professionalism, the community will be exporting professionals.

He says other areas of priorities should include support to business sector especially small and medium enterprises, adding that these are their factories where their income come from.

He says these with others like access roads, water improvement of markets and provision of sanitation facilities are important.

Apiyo says this is the time to reflect and come up various blue prints on how to scale up the production of sugarcane, ground nuts, rice, cassava and sweet potatoes.

“This is the time to also find modern ways of mining minerals that have so far been discovered like gold in a manner that they will develop our community,” Kapiyo adds.

Apiyo at the same time ask Kenyans to play a great role in offering checks and balances to the incoming government of President-elect Dr. William Ruto who is being sworn-in on Tuesday next week to take over from the Outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He says that it is the responsibility of Kenyans to ensure that the Government in place serves then well in line with provisions of the constitution of Kenya 2010.

Apiyo further says that as a civil society organization, their mandate rests on good governance, adding that it would like to see both the two levels of government to be open, accountable and transparent to the people they will be serving.a
