Legion Maria begins construction of shs 200M level 4 hospital in Ksm

THE Legion Maria of African Church Mission has embarked on the construction of an ultra-modern level four hospital in Kisumu County that will cost an estimated shs 200 million.

The facility known as Saint Mary’s Legion Maria Mission Hospital has commenced its construction in one of the Church’s plots in the outskirts of Kisumu City.

Addressing the press during the official ground breaking Ceremony today at Marera area in Kisumu West Sub-county, Legion Maria of African Church Mission Administrative Secretary Arch Bishop Peter Abuto said the project is the brain child of the youth of the church who initiated it three years ago.

Abuto says this is a dream being realized after the Church’s Founder had wanted its faithful to build hospitals as well as other social amenities.

He says this is the dream that the Youth fraternity have come together to realize it hence to be one of the pillar of development in the church that was started in Kenya in early 1960s.

The Arch Bishop says already the church through the donations from the youth has managed to raise about shs 8 million to jump start the multi-million project in its round one collection of funds.

The Church’s Administrative Secretary says this project will be realized so as to debunk the myth that members of the Legion Maria of African Church Mission have never been associated with visiting health facilities whenever they fall sick but only resorting to prayers for healing.

Abuto says the church fraternity has appealed to partners and well-wishers to chip in and donate towards the construction of the facility which he adds will greatly benefit the community around and beyond.

Head of Legion Maria of African Church Mission Pope Raphael Adika says this is a major milestone towards the development in the church.

He says there is room for more such projects to be realized within the church’s fraternity with an aim of serving the community.

Bishop Wickliffe Nyapera who is in charge of the Youth Affairs docket says the facility will be done in different phases and will last for three years from the time the ground breaking ceremony which is today.

The project’s contractor says the facility will be composed of phase one which will be a health clinic that will help the community to access the health care services.

“It has three phases and will have an outpatient unit, Pediatric ward, maternal ward, Intensive Care Unit, Radiology wing among other,” the contractor says.

This is one of the projects the Legion Maria of African Church Mission is undertaking as a mega one.
