Vet Political
Analysts to avoid alarmists, Board tells media.
THE MEDIA houses in the country have been told to first vet
various political analysts before inviting them for political talk shows.
The Kenya Film Classification Board Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Ezekiel Mutua says some of the so called political analysts are so alarming and
engage in inciting the public while on air once invited by the media for
political talk shows hence need to be vetted properly.
Speaking in Kisumu during a courtesy call to the Nyanza
regional Coordinator's office, Mutua said the media houses should begin the
vetting process of the political analysts they invite to their studios so as to
avoid having those who can incite Kenyans against one another especially during
this electioneering period.
“Some of these political analysts who have been invited into
various media house’s studios have been a big let down because they have been
seen to be inciting Kenyans against one another for no apparent reason while on
air. This is not acceptable and we call upon the media to embark on vetting them
before inviting such individuals to their studios,” he says.
Mutua says the media should help in preaching peace which is
very key to various developments to take place across various parts of the
country.
Mutua says there cannot be any form of meaningful development without
the existence of peace across the country and it is the media which can help in
preaching the various messages of peace to Kenyans of all walks of life.
“Kenyans will not entertain those political analysts who
want to divide them while spewing hate speech and inciting them whenever they
are invited to Media houses studios thus threatening the peace, he adds.
He says this country can not be built on pure politics all the
time year in year out without embarking on various development activities to
uplift the living standards of its people.
Mutua at the same time says the Government will use an estimated
shs 20 billion to set up the Studio Mashina and Cinema Mashinani projects across the various parts of the country.
He says already a state of the art studio Mashinani has been
put up in Isiolo County and a similar one is to be set up in Kisumu County.
He says the funds will also help in putting up creative Art
Centers across the country as well as Cinema Mashinani.
Nyanza Regional Coordinator Wilson Njega says they fully
support the new initiative.
He urges the public to make utilize the facilities once
completed so as to help in the production of the local films contents.
He says the Government will not relent on its move to crack
down on those with illegal betting machines without licenses.
