County Government urged to allocate more funds for reproductive health programs.

THE New County Government of Kisumu has been urged to consider  allocating more funds to cater for reproductive health issues within the various parts of the County.

Former Nominated Member of Kisumu County Assembly Farida Salim says it is very much prudent for the new County Government of Kisumu under Governor Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o to put more funds to help in addressing reproductive health issues.

Speaking to this writer in Kisumu, Salim said the current County Government should look into the various problems of Reproductive Health vis a vis the current allocation.

She argues that what is allocated to tackle Reproductive Health issues in Kisumu County should match the magnitude of the problem experienced.

‘’I want to sincerely urge the current county Government under Prof. Nyongo as the Governor to consider putting more allocation to help in tackling reproductive health issues within the county but the County Government must first look into the various problems on Reproductive health and what is allocated after looking into such problems should match the magnitude of the problems experienced,’’ she says.

Farida who was the Vice Chair of the Health Committee in the previous County Assembly of Kisumu has given example of the maternal mortality which she says is high.

She says for such like issue to be well mitigated, there is need for proper funds to be allocated to fully equip the already existing maternities.

She says such good allocation of funds will also help in employing adequate staff to help in the service delivery in such department of health.

Farida at the same time has hailed proposal by the new County Government under Governor Prof. Nyongo to give a monthly salary to all the Community Health Workers within the County of Kisumu.

She says awarding the stipends will really help in motivating the CHWs whose work has greater impacts on the health care systems at the grass root level.

‘’Awarding stipend to Community Health Workers in Kisumu county is really a good idea and I fully welcome this because during our tenure we agitated for them to be given a stipend,’’ she adds.

She adds that the Community Health Workers does a good work at the grass root level to save lives, saying it is a noble idea.

She says the last County Assembly of Kisumu did its best and ensure that it passed legislations meant to address some of the issues which really affect the common people.
