Onyango Oloo takes
over as Kisumu County Assembly Second Speaker.

George Onyango Oloo has taken over at the County Assembly as its second Speaker
after being overwhelmingly elected.
Oloo who decamped to the Orange Democratic Movement {ODM}
Party and contested at the party primaries in Kisumu Central Constituency and
failed to clinch its ticket, has now managed to be elected the Kisumu county
Assembly Speaker becoming its second Speaker.
He managed to trounce the immediate former Speaker Ann
Atieno Adul by garnering 32 against Adul who only managed 5 votes.
His closest challenger for the seat is Advocate Ken Amondi
who managed to get 11 votes while Peter Charles Omollo, Jared Sala and Cynthia
Aluoch Osiro all got no votes.A total of six candidates contested the seat.
Announcing the official results after the polls where all
the 48 Members of the County Assembly who had just been sworn-in voted, Kisumu
County Assembly Clerk Ben Opiyo declared Oloo the winner after garnering the
highest number of votes.
A total of 48 votes were cast as there were not spoil or
rejected votes.
Migosi ward Representative Victor Rogers and his Kajulu Ward
counterpart Roy Samo accompanied the Speaker-elect and indeed confirmed to the
Assembly that he is duly the one who has been elected as the next Speaker after which he was sworn-in as the Speaker.
After his swearing-in, Oloo in his acceptance speech thanked
the MCAs for electing him as the second Speaker of the County Assembly of
Kisumu, adding that he will serve the Assembly without fear or favor.
He also congratulated all the elected and nominated MCAs who
have been sworn-in to serve the public in the second Assembly of Kisumu County.
He has promised to work closely with the executive wing of
the county Government of Kisumu to ensure that service delivery reaches the
public.
He urges the MCAs to fully support the current Governor
Prof. Nyong’os manifesto.
Oloo says he will help in implementing the ODM party
manifesto, adding that this is the party with the highest number of MCAs at the
County Assembly of Kisumu.
“My role will be to moderate the debates at the Assembly as
well as performing other functions as prescribed by law,” he says.
Oloo has also congratulated the immediate former Speaker Ann
Adul for steering the first County Assembly of Kisumu.
