48 MCAs sworn-in as second Kisumu County Assembly convenes.
THE SECOND County Assembly of
Kisumu has kicked off it sittings by swearing-in 48 Members of the County
Assembly both elected and nominated.
The County Assembly of Kisumu
convenes it first session on Wednesday and the first business has been swearing
in of its 48 Members.
The Assembly has 35 elected MCAs
representing 35 wards within Kisumu County and 13 nominated MCAs to represent
various groups ranging from persons with disabilities, minority and
marginalized ones.
This brings the number to be 48
as compared to the last Assembly which had 49 MCAs.
The long-serving Kaloleni/Shauri
Moyo ward Representative Prisca Auma Misachi was the first person to take the
Oath of Office then followed by Paul Okiri, Pamela Odhiambo and nominated Aslam
Khan whom all served at the previous County Assembly of Kisumu.Misachi served
as a mayor in the now defunct Kisumu Municipality when she was a councilor
representing then Stadium Ward.
The n all the remaining 44 MCAs
took the Oath of office following how their names appear in alphabetical order.
The swearing-in Ceremony at the
County Assembly of Kisumu was full of theatrics as three MCAs who were being
sworn-in went contrary to the prescribed Oath of office and inserted their own
words during the process but the County Assembly Clerk Ben Opiyo had to
intervene and asked them to repeat the process.
Kondele Ward Representative
Joachim Oketch Omieno Aka Swagga caused a prolonged laughter in the Assembly
when he inserted these words during his swearing-in: “I will do justice to all people just like
Chief Justice Maraga did.”
This forced the Clerk to tell him
repeat the entire process which he did diligently.
Roy Samo of Kajulu ward caused
further laughter at the Assembly during his swearing –in ceremony when he asked
God to help Nasa Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga to become the next
President.
He said: “So help me God and also
Baba Raila Amollo Odinga to become the next President.”
His pronouncement also forced the
Clerk and his term to repeat the whole process which he did well.
Kolwa East Ward Representative
Stephen Owiti inserted the word “TIBIM” during his swearing-in ceremony which
left the Assembly members in stitches.He was also asked to repeat the Oath of
office taking and did it perfectly.
