Bring the killers of Union official to book, Kisumu nurses tells police.

NURSES working in public health facilities in Kisumu county demand that police should carry out thorough investigations into the recent brutal murder of the Kenya National Union of Nurses Kisumu Branch official.

The Nurses have appealed to the Internal Security Minister Dr. Fred Matiang’I, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai and the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti to quickly launch investigations into the gruesome murder of Ferdinand Ongeri Ondieki who has been the Kenya National Union of Nurses Kisumu Branch Vice chairman.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today after conducting a prayer for their departed colleague, the Nurses led by the Kenya National Union of Nurses Kisumu Branch Secretary Maurice Opetu said they have condemned the killing of their colleague whose mutilated body was found in Kimonde Forest in Nandi County last Saturday.

They said it is quite unfortunate that Ongeri has been killed at the time he was negotiating issues of promotion of nurses with the County Government of Kisumu last Wednesday on July 24.

“We must be told who has killed Ferdinand and why must such killing take place to a nurse who takes care of the sick people at the health facility,” Opetu said.

He the police should move with speed and investigate the matter thoroughly, adding that they will not relent until the killers are brought to book.

The nurses have threatened that they will down their tools should they not be told within the three days what has killed their colleague.

“We are giving them an ultimatum for three days so that they tell us who has killed our colleague and why failure to do so we will go and camp at the mortuary while mourning our colleague till we bury him,” he said.

The Kenya National Union Nurses Kisumu Branch Vice Chairman Ferdinand Ongeri went missing last Wednesday and his mutilated body was discovered in Kimonde forest in Nandi County on Saturday.

Police moved the Body to Kapsabet Sub-County Hospital after which it was transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
