Youth's Lawyer write to police
demanding arrest of Gem MP over assault.
A KISUMU BASED Youth who claims that Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo assaulted him
nearly one and half months ago now want the Police to arrest and charge the
legislator.
Through his
Lawyer Jared Sala of Sala and Mudany Company Advocates, Maurice Ochieng Oduor popularly
known as Don Pablo has written to the officer Commanding Police Station {OCS} at
Kisumu Central Police Station demanding the police to arrest the legislator whom
he claim assaulted him on June 4, this year at his place of work behind the
Awori House in Kisumu.
In the
letter dated today July 17, 2019, the complainant said since he reported the
case at Kisumu Central Police station on June 4 this year, police has taken no
action against the Member of Parliament for Gem over the matter.
“Our client
made a report of assault against the said Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo at your
police station on June 4 2019 vide OB Number 70/04/06/2019.Since then, one and
half months down the line, no action has been taken to arrest the said offender
and bring him to book,” part of the letter reads.
The letter
further reads: “This is to kindly request your office to ensure the arrest as
per the report, and hand him over to the nearest court of law forthwith, so as
to enable the issue take its lawful and necessary course.”
The letter
has been copied to Kisumu County Police Commander, County Criminal
Investigating Officer, District Criminal Investigating Officer{DCIO},
Independent Policing Oversight Authority{IPOA} and Commission on Administration
of Justice.
When
contacted to comment on the matter, Kisumu County Police Commander Benson
Mawewo was not available in the office by the time the journalists visited to
seek his comment.
On June 4
this year, a Kisumu Based Youth accused Gem Constituency Member of Parliament Elisha
Odhiambo of assaulting him within his place of work following a post he made on
social media indicating that EACC had summoned him over alleged graft in
National Government Constituency Development Funds.
Maurice Ochieng Oduor popularly known as Don Pablo claimed
that he saw the Member of Parliament entering EACC Western Kenya regional
offices in Kisumu and posted that he had been summoned by the Ethics and
Anti-corruption Commission in his face book account.
Addressing the press at Kisumu Central Police Station then where he went and recorded a statement with the police in regard to the incident Oduor said some of the MP’s allies begun to call him via his cellphone asking him why he had posted such like a thing on social media.
He claimed most of those people who had called him threatened while asking why he did such like a thing.
He however said he deleted the post after the MP had demanded that he delete it, adding that even after deleting it the lawmaker came and attacked him at his place of work.
