Residents of Karachuonyo Kokoth of Koredo Sub-location in Homa Bay County who are affected by the water back flow from Lake Victoria have received food and other donations from a group of Lawyers in Nyanza.

Under the Banner of Okil Kamaloka Welfare Association (OKWA), the residents have received the food and other items donations after they have been displaced by the water back flow from Lake Victoria which is  as a result of heavy rainfall that were witnessed during the long rains in April this year.

Addressing the press this weekend during the distribution of the food and other items, former President of the East African Law Society James Aggrey Mwamu said this has been part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from the Association to the local communities.

He says the initiative has benefitted four area so far namely Kabonyo Kanyagwal in Kisumu County, Ugenya in Siaya County, Central Kadem in Migori and now Karachuonyo in Homa Bay County.

Mwamu says the donations is also meant to cushion the local community against the hardship witnessed as a result of the Corona Virus which has been a pandemic in the entire world.

Mwamu has challenged other organizations to come to those who are vulnerable and need help.

About 150 residents who have benefitted from the initiative have lauded the Association's move to come to their rescue.

John Nyakiti Oteko, Samuel Okero Odera among other residents who received the donations at Migunde Primary school have been a happy lot following the initiative.

“We want to sincerely thank the Okil Kamaloka Welfare Association comprising of a Group of lawyers from Nyanza region for the kind of donation they have given us after we have been displaced by the water back flow from Lake Victoria. We urge them to also visit   some areas as well to give such donations to vulnerable people across the country,” they say.
