50 FAO sponsored Agric Extension officers graduated in Kisumu

A total of 50 Agricultural extension officers in Kisumu County have graduated after being sponsored by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations{FAO} in collaboration with the County Government of Kisumu.

Under the banner of FAO Farmer Business School, the 50 extension officer have been drawn from both private and public sector.

Addressing the gathering during the graduation ceremony today, Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations {FAO} Assistant Kenya Country Representative Hamisi Williams said the farmers will now help in the implementation of specific programs with great emphasis on sustainable aggregation and collecting marketing.

He says they will roll-out season long training within the farmers Business school groups for farmers at the ground level.

  He says FAO developed the FBS to assist farmers learn how to make their farming enterprises and overall farm operations profitable while responding to the market demands.

“The school enable the farmers to improve their knowledge, change their attitude and enhance their skills needed for farm commercialization.

He says the training takes place at the farm level through schools set up in the individual communities, adding that the business segment occurs in the  farmers’ own local environment where they work in small groups at their own pace.
