ELDERS CALLS FOR FAIR ODM NOMINATION PROCESS.

A SECTION of Elders from Kisumu County have asked the Orange Democratic Movement{ODM} Party to conduct a free, fair and  transparent nomination process in the forthcoming party’s primaries.

The elders under the banner of the Kisumu County Elders Forum said the party should be able to conduct its nominations in a free, fair and transparent manner.

Addressing the press at Jumuiya Hotel in Kisumu on Sunday, the elders drawn from Seme, Nyakach, Kisumo, Kajulu and Kano areas led by Mzee Charles Okuom Kogada said the process of ODM nominating the candidates should also be peaceful.

They have also advocated for peaceful campaigns in Kisumu County free from violence, abuses and mudslinging.

The elders further encourage all aspirants to do mature and responsible politics by selling their agenda and not resorting to vices that can create anarchy.

The elders at the same time have endorsed the re-election of Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma so as to continue with the good work he has been doing for Kisumu County residents.

“ We have unanimously endorsed the reelection of Governor Jack Ranguma so that he can continue the good work he is doing for Kisumu County such as scholarship and bursary programs, streetlighting, opening up of roads and general improvement of infrastructure, health, among others, “They said in a press statement.

They said the Governor deserves a second term in office so as to be able to complete the projects his county Government initiated when devolution was ushered after the March 4, 2013 General Elections.

The Kisumu County Elders Forum’s endorsement of Governor Ranguma comes barely a few weeks after 300 elders from Kano endorsed his re-election bid.

The elders have also asked the ODM party to review the names of the officials who will be manning its primaries within Kisumu County since there are concerns raised so far by a number of the party’s aspirants

“We have learnt of the concerns raised by a number of ODM aspirants in Kisumu County regarding the ODM county elections board. We ask the party to review the names of the officials and merging of polling centres for all aspirants and their supporters to be assured of a free, fair and transparent party primary slated for April 13th. This assurance will go a long way to avert fallout and possible voter apathy in the run up to the August General Elections,” they added.
