KISUMU Governor Jack Ranguma has assured the residents of
proper security during the ODM nomination exercise that kicked off this morning.
Ranguma says as a stakeholder in the security matters within
the county, the security situation is the county is okay for the ODM nomination
which is ongoing within the county.
Ranguma says the residents should come out in large numbers
so as to vote during this ODM party primary.
He urged people should vote peacefully and wait for the outcome
of the exercise.
The Governor who casted his vote at Kobura Primary School within
Nyando Constituency said he will carry the day after the residents will have
voted him as the ODM party Candidate.
He said the voting in some places within the county started
late as by more than six hours than the time expected.
“I have realized that the voting exercise has delayed but
things will be still alright,” Ranguma said.
Meanwhile, the ODM nomination exercise kicked off this
morning with a number of polling stations in various constituencies within the
county.
In Kisumu Central, the voting exercise kicked off as early
as 8:00 am where at some polling stations like Aga Khan Hall, long queues of
people have been witnessed so as to participate in the exercise.
At the Jomo Kenyatta Grounds Polling station, long queues
have been witnessed but there was a problem of identifying names from the
registers given both from the ODM and IEBC and this made the process to slow
during the morning, however, it picked up well and the queues moved on as
people trooped in to vote candidates of their choices.
In Nyando Constituency, voting exercise kicked off in some
polling stations smoothly that included Karanda polling station within Ahero
Ward where long queues were witnessed.
In Muhoroni constituency, anxiety gripped most polling
stations after word went round that the
polling officials disappeared after abandoning voting materials in some places.
However, voting took place in some few polling stations.
The issue of the County Tallying center remained a mystery
after the County Returing Officer Tom Okong’o said they will brief the press
later and by the time of going to press, it was not clear where the final
tallying for the county will be done.
