Kisumu Jubilee Aspirants cry foul after President’s
visit.
A section of Jubilee Party
aspirants in Kisumu County are a crying lot after they claim that they were
denied access to the State Lodge in Kisumu during the President’s visit on
Tuesday.
Led by the Kisumu County
Jubilee Chairperson Atieno Otieno, the aspirants claim that some people
purporting to be the party’s aspirants in various positions within the county
were allowed in instead of them who are the ‘genuine’ aspirants.
Addressing the press at
Police Officers’ Mess in Kisumu after the President Kenyatta’s visit in the
Lake side City, the aspirants claim that some individuals at the Party’s
Headquarters are allegedly colluding with a Senator in Nyanza region together
with another notable aspirant in Kisumu to frustrate them.
They claim that they stayed
at the State Lodge’s gate for more than two hours before gaining gaining entry into
the facility when the President visited it on Tuesday this week.
Otieno who is also an
aspiring Governor in Kisumu County on a Jubilee Party Ticket, claim that a
parallel list was presented to the State Lodge without their names.
“I and my team had to stand
by the gate for two hours even though my name was on the list but I could not
go inside the State Lodge leaving my team outside” she says.
Otieno says when their time
to meet the President at the State Lodge came, they could not do so because
another list was read and their names were missing hence missed the opportunity
to meet the Head of State.
Otieno claims that the
Jubilee Party Headquarters keeps on sending people as regional Party’s
Coordinators and this is allegedly confusing the party’s supporters in the
region because they do not know who is really in charge of the party at the
grass root level.
“If the party headquarters
are sending some people as regional coordinators then they should give us a
letter towards that effect and we will now know who they are but keeping on
sending people here as it’s the Jubilee Party coordinators without our
knowledge is really confusing us,” she adds.
She adds that they were
validly elected in the office last December and it is time for them to work and
not to quarrel with anybody.
They appeal to the President
as the Jubilee Party Leader to intervene and save the situation, adding that
they are the people at the ground who will help in mobilizing votes for the
party at the grass root level.
