The County Government of KISUMU is
set to tax 35,000 Boda Boda Operators within the entire County beginning tomorrow.

generating revenue to the county Government.
Addressing the press in Kisumu
today,Achar said the county Government will on a daily basis charge shs 20 each
Boda Boda Operator within the county.
He says those who are not registered
with a Sacco or a Community Based Organization will be dealt with individually
but those who are registered will be dealt with through their various
Sacco.
"Those Boda Boda
Operators who are registered and members of the Sacco will be dealt with
separately within their various Sacco while those unregistered will be dealt
with individually," he says.

Boda Operators will commence tomorrow on August 1.
The Committee Excutive Member in
charge of Finance says they will enforce and collect tax from the Boda Boda
Operators, adding that they need to pay tax just like any other residents of the
county.
"We have resolved to start
taxing our Boda Boda Operators within the entire County as from
August 1 which is tomorrow," Achar says.
Achar at the same time adds that the
issue of cashless system as a new form of revenue collection in Kisumu County
has shown tremendous progress since its inception nearly one month ago.
He says initially there was a drop
of about 50 percent within the first week but those to about 150 percent
thereafter.
He adds however they have been
experiencing a deep in revenue collection as a result of their revenue
collectors who have not been motivated since they are not handling the cash
directly.
Achar adds that plans are underway
to recruit new revenue collectors as well as County Enforcement officers to
help in enhancing the collection of the revenue under the new system.
He adds that already a contract has
now been signed between the county Government and Strathmore University over
the implementation of the new revenue collection system after an appealed
that was lodged by Kenya Commercial Bank and the other competitor was heard and
determined last week.
