THE National Government has been urged to allocate more
funds to the women representatives’ kitty.
A section of Members of Parliament have said the current
allocation of shs 7million per constituency that the Government has been giving
to the National Government Affirmative Action Fund{NGAAF} being controlled by
the women Representatives is very little.
Speaking at Karanda Primary school during the opening
ceremony of the NGAAF Youth Tournament being spearheaded by Kisumu Women
Representative Rosa Buyu where over 5,000 youth are participating, Alego Usonga
MP Sam Atandi said the amount should be increased.
Atandi said if MPs are given shs 100m in a give financial
year and a woman Rep is given shs 7 million per constituency then something
must be done to increase the women’s rep funds.
“As an MP serving in the current Parliament, I want to urge
the National Government under President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider increasing
allocation given to our women reps across the country so as to enable serve the
people well,” Atandi said.
Homa Bay Women Representative Gladys Wanga said there is
real need by the Government to increase the National Government Affirmative
Action given to the Women Representative kitty.
Wanga said they will continue support President Uhuru
Kenyatta in his fight against corruption.
“We will fully support the President in his fight against
corruption in the country and we will equally help him realize his legacy,”
Wanga said.
Kisumu Women Representative Rosa Buyu said the NGAAF has
really helped in transforming the lives of the local people hence the need to
increase its allocation.
“What NGAAF tries to do is to develop in the future of the
country and this is a good move at all cost,” Buyu said.
Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Public
Service, Gender and Youth Affairs said the National Government under President
Uhuru Kenya is fully committed in building the bridges initiative.
She added that women leadership should be really supported
and the National Government is very much committed to ensure that this is
achieved.
Shebesh also reiterated the need to increase the Women
Representatives’ fund allocation.
“There is no competition is more money is allocated by the
exchequer to the women reps kitty and this is very much okay,” she sai.
She said the office of the Women representatives deserves
better allocation for their work to reach everyone within their counties they
represent.
Kisumu Women Representative Rosa Buyu said the tournament will benefit 5,080 youths from the seven sub-counties within the County.
