SECONDARY Schools students across the country have been told not to engage in burning of their schools when they go on strike.

Idah Odinga, the wife of Nasa Leader Raila Odinga says the issue of burning of schools in some parts of the country which is currently being witnessed is not good at all.

Addressing mourners during the funeral of Migori County Senator Ben Oluoch Okello at Kanyimach Village, Mrs Odinga said no student should engage in burning of the learning institutions whenever they go on rampage.

Mrs. Odinga says a number of bright students have passed through such schools in the past without burning such learning institutions yet some students who just joined them recently have now engaged in setting them on fire.

“ I want to tell secondary school students that those schools where they are learning currently have been great institutions to some bright students who learnt there and they never burned them down during their days. Why do you now burn them simply because you have gone on strike,”? Mrs. Odinga asks.

Odinga urges those students who are tired of being in school not to waste other students’ learning opportunities and should instead pack and leave such institutions with immediate effect without setting them on fire.

“If you are a student in a school and you are tired to continue with learning, kindly pack and leave the institution immediately without burning it down because there are some students who are really in need of education in such learning institutions,” Odinga adds.

Rarieda Member of Parliament Dr. Paul Otiende Amollo has also echoed the same sentiments.
Amollo says there should be dialogue between teachers and students so as to help in averting the students’ strike witnessed so far in a number of schools in the country.

A number of schools have so far been closed indefinitely in some parts of the country including Nyanza region due students’ unrest which has rocked the learning institutions.

In nyanza region, More than ten schools have been shut after students’ unrest and schools like Maranda high school, Kisumu Girls, Ng’iya Girls,Otieno Oyoo, Onjiko, Ambira Boys, Maliera,Oriwo Boys, Chulaimbo, Barding  among others have been closed indefinitely after students went on rampage causing damages in some of the schools.
