Kisumu County Assembly approves 11 nominees for City Management Board.

THE County Assembly of Kisumu has adopted and approved a report by the Standing Committee on appointment on the 11 people whom Governor Prof Nyong’o had earlier nominated as members of the Kisumu City Management Board.

The Assembly has approved the names after the Committee on Appointments vetted them on June 5 and 6 this year led by its Chairman who is Kisumu County Assembly Speaker George Onyango Oloo.

Presenting the report to the Assembly for adoption and approval today, Kisumu County Assembly Majority Chief Whip Gad Olima said the committee sat for several days to come up with the report for the adoption at the Assembly.

Olima says during the presentation of the report at the Assembly that the committee while interrogating the nominees suitability for the appointment established that all the lgal threshholds of Chapter Six of the Constitution 2010 and section 13 of the Urban areas and Cities Act  of 2012 were adhered to.

“It is therefore my honor and privilege on behalf of the Committee on Appointment to table this before this Honorable House for consideration,” the Majority Chief Whip said.


Members of the County Assembly who debated on the report before approval unanimously agreed with it and thanked the Committee on Appointment for what they have termed as a job well done.

They said the need to have the Kisumu City Management Board is long overdue and urged the Kisumu Governor to immediately gazette the nominees who have been approved for appointments to the Board.

Assembly’s Leader of Majority Ken Onyango says the task ahead of the board Members nominees is very enormous and they must be ready to take it with zeal and zest.

Those who have been approved include Prof Larry Gumbe, Kennedy Obware Akoko, Charles Owoko Ochome, John Ombija, Elijah Adul and Rose Arungu Olende who have been approved in accordance to section 13 {1] of the Urban areas and Cities Act of 2013

Other members approved are Sagar Nichandrah Shah representing informal sector, Salim Farida Ahmed representing Private Sector and Sheila Adhiambo Okal representing neighborhood.

 Others are Former Mayor Sam Okello representing associations of town and Peris Ochola to represent professionals.


On April 12 this year, Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong'o nominated 11 people to be in the Kisumu City Management Board.

Individual member categories include Prof. Lawrence Gumbe, John Ombija, Obware Kennedy Akoko, Charles Owoko Ochome, Elijah Adul and Rose Arungu Olende.

Former Nominated Councilor who is also a former Mayor Sam Okello was nominated to represent an association of towns while Sheila Okal has been nominated to represent registered neighborhood association.

Peris Ochola and Salim Farida Ahmed were nominated to represent professionals and Private Sector respectively while Sagar  Nichandrah Shah has been nominated to represent informal sector.

The Kisumu Governor will now gazette the names approved so far by the assembly for appointment to the Board within fourteen days after such approvals.
